From one flight at a time to the whole crew.

British Airways' crew tools were built for the enterprise iPad era — beautifully detailed, but scoped to a single flight at a time. We rebuilt that design language into Crew Analytics, a live operations home surfacing fatigue risk, compliance and scheduling health across the entire crew base.

/ 01 — The Challenge

Beautiful detail, one flight at a time.

BA's enterprise iPad tools followed a strict "Digital User Experience Language" — consistent navigation, typography and iconography across every app crew used in the air and on the ground. Opened to a specific flight, like BA 175, it gave a crew manager everything: punctuality, customer requirements, catering, route weather.

What it couldn't do was zoom out. There was no home screen for the whole crew base — no way to see fatigue risk, compliance or scheduling health across thousands of crew members without opening flight after flight.

/ 02 — The Approach

Pulling the components that scale.

Rather than start from a blank page, we pinned the existing flight-level patterns — punctuality rings, customer requirement counts, route specifics — up next to the brand's own colour system and asked which pieces could scale from "one flight" to "the whole fleet" without losing what made them work.

  • Kept BA's existing palette and iconography language, but rebuilt the structure around crew-first navigation — Overview, Operations, Crew, Compliance, Fatigue Risk, Insights, Reports.
  • Turned the flight-level punctuality rings and requirement counts into fleet-wide KPI cards, so the same visual grammar now reads at a glance across 8,000+ crew instead of one flight.
  • Added an AI Insights panel that proactively surfaces patterns — like fatigue risk clustering on red-eye arrivals — instead of requiring a crew manager to go looking for them.

/ 03 — The Solution

Crew Analytics: one live operations home.

The shipped experience gives crew managers a single Overview — active crew, flights operated, block hours and utilisation up top, with fatigue risk trending against a defined threshold, real-time crew availability, top routes by block hours, and a compliance score rolling up licenses, medical, training and documents. Critical alerts and AI-generated insights surface automatically, so nothing waits to be found.

/ 04 — The Results

The numbers that moved.

  • 8,346 crew now visible from a single home screen, instead of one flight-level app at a time.
  • 87.6% crew utilisation, trending up 2.4 percentage points week over week.
  • 98.2% overall compliance visibility across licenses, medical, training and documents, up 1.3 percentage points.
  • Fatigue risk now surfaced proactively — 12 crew flagged automatically instead of found manually, flight by flight.
